General
What is BarLink
BarLink is a program
designed by Indiana Crop to aid it's customers tagging seed samples to be
sent in for testing. Data can be easily entered into the program and this
data is used to create labels complete with bar codes. The labels are then
scanned at the lab to enter the data into the system. This reduces data
entry errors. BarLink is already used by several companies and has reduced
their time in getting samples ready.
Customers can choose to
enter data directly into BarLink, import the data from an XML file, or
create their own program to create the bar codes. Details for the XML file
schema and the details for barcode layout are on the
Developers page.
There have been new types of Crops or Test available
since the installation of BarLink. Do I need to reinstall it.
Now you can download the update from the internet. Just connect to the
internet and from the menu select Help then Get Crop/Test Updates.
BarLink will then connect to the web service and download the update. If
BarLink is unable to connect the following message will appear in the title
bar
. If it is successful the
title bar will remain unchanged.

How do I tell which version of BarLink I am using.
From the menu select Help them About. The
version number appears at the bottom.

How do I keep from wrinkling the label on the sample bags
Lay the empty bag out flat before filling the bag with seed.

Sample Data Record?

an Inputted Sample Data Record?
Yes, to change a test,
right click on the test to be changed and select the right test from the
drop down box.
Why do the input field
names turn red?
The input fields names turn
red because of active tracking. This feature makes it easier for the user
to track the selected field within the Input Sample Data Records.
Can I save my work
If you need to exit the program before you finish you can
save your current data and reload it latter.
How do I open a previous file
From the menu select File then Open Data File
then select the desired file.
How do I save a file
From the menu select File then Save Data File
then select the desired location for the file and give it a name.
How do I print out a
copy for my records / a packing slip
There are three options:
print a Submission Report, save
to an Excel file, or save to a
Data
file (XML). The best
option for use as a packing slip is the Submission Report. The layout of
this is designed to be easy to read. The Excel file is good if you are
keeping this for your records or are going to import it into another
program. The data file is in an XML format and can be easily imported into
programs designed for this format.
Printing a
Submission Report
From the menu select
Print then Print Submission Report. Next click on the Printer button
.

Saving to an Excel
File
Data can be saved to an Excel file. This maintains the relationship between
the samples and the test for each sample. To save to an Excel file select
File from the menu then Save Data to Excel File. Next select the
location and name the file.

Saving Data File
(XML)
From the menu select File then Save Data File. Next select the location and
name the file.
