7-30-2007 Even with rust discoveries further north than usual for this time of year, the weather forecast combined with the soybean crop's development likely will add up to very little chance of rust reaching the Corn Belt before harvest. 
7-12-2007 ICIA has taken over the responsibility for teaching Agronomy 306 Seed Technology at Purdue University.
7-11-2007 Liz Pestow has joined ICIA as the new marketing director.
6-12-2007 We are pleased to announce we have hired a new employee at Indiana Crop. Elizabeth Pestow will begin her duties as our new Marketing Director on July 9. You will be hearing more about her and from her this summer.
5-31-2007 We are updating many areas of the mainframe computer system which impacts LabLink. While we don't expect any major problems, be aware there could be some minor glitches as we make the transition in early June.
5-03-2007 Wheat seed fields in many areas to the south of Indiana have been lost or severely damaged by the Easter freeze. We encourage all Indiana wheat seed producers to monitor the wholesale market potential. Indiana Crop will inspect added fields right up until harvest to help facilitate added seed wheat supplies.
4-13-2007 The new addition to the ICIA facilities is nearing completion. This 6600 square foot expansion will provide increased space for the Genetics Lab, the Bioassay Herbicide Lab and the Cold Testing Department. A new sand germination department is being created and warehouse space is also being expanded.
2-16-2007 BarLink© is now available for use to create customized barcoded labels for samples sent to our lab. Just go to our home page and click on the BarLink© button. It's a typical Windows download and the program is easy to use.
11-15-2006 Indiana Crop has developed BarLink©, a new bar coding program for samples. It is being beta tested now and will be available for use by interested customers in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
10-06-2006 Energy facts: The U.S. has 5% of the world's population but consumes 25% of it's oil. Within 25 years the world will need 50% more energy. Close to 80% of the world's oil is controlled by government-run oil companies subject to the whims of political agendas. Attend our Annual Conference in February to hear how the U.S. is working to help "fix" this problem. The Friday morning February 9 session is loaded with experts to address these issues. Don't miss it.
9-29-2006 Mark your calendar to attend our Seed Testing & Quality Seminar on November 2 here in the Conference Center. It will begin at 9:00 AM and end with lunch. We are limiting it to the first 60 to sign up.
9-08-2006 A new report about the future of biotechnology, developed by USDA's Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture, was made public last week. It is titled "Opportunities and Challenges in Agricultural Biotechnology: the Decade Ahead". It can be found at http://www.usda.gov/documents/final_main_report-v6.pdf.  It's worth a look.
9-05-2006 Plan to attend the February 8-9, 2007 Annual Conference. Planning is already well along for the program and it promises to be another outstanding one. This year, the Illinois/Indiana Seed Conditioning Workshop will be on February 7 - the day prior to the Annual Conference. Two valuable meetings in one convenient location in Indianapolis. 8/07/2006 Sudden Oak Death, a tree disease that has killed hundreds of thousands of oak trees in California, is now in Indiana after arriving in a shipment of shrubs from Oregon.

Soybean rust is still confined to only in a few counties in the Gulf Coast region of the U.S. There has been no finding of rust in soybeans in or anywhere near Indiana - according to Shawn Conley, Purdue Extension Agronomist.

7-31-2006 One hunter and two state officials in Iowa have tested positive for the nonthreatening type of bird flu. This is believed to be the first case to show that people can catch bird flu from wild birds; all previous cases involved domestic poultry.
7-31-2006 Asian soybean rust has been confirmed in three new Southeast locations this week, including the first infection on soybeans in Louisiana.

10-12-2005 FROGEYE LEAF SPOT is a seed borne fungal disease. Seed treatment will take care of the seed borne risk, but the primary factor in field infection is from spores in debris. This disease has generally been limited to the states in the US from Tennessee south, but in 2005 has been noted in fields in Indiana. Genetic resistance exists, but not all cultivars have the primary resistance gene.
10-10-2005 A seed company has reported that some soybean yields appear to have been reduced by up to 20 bushels per acre from FROGEYE LEAF SPOT. Some varieties were extremely susceptible while others appeared to be quite resistant. This report came from East Central Indiana. Stay tuned for more information.
