The Indiana Crop Improvement Association is proud to be an ISO registered organization.   This quality assurance achievement adds value to both our field and laboratory programs. Our Quality Management System has been audited and is compliant to the ISO 9001/2000 Standard.  ISO is the acronym for the International Organization for Standardization - a non-governmental, worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 140 countries - established in 1947.

The mission of ISO is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services, and to developing cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.  ISO itself does not certify quality management systems. ISO is the standards body that accredits ISO registrars who in turn provide the auditing and make recommendations regarding  certification.

ISO 9001 is primarily concerned with "quality management".  Like beauty, everyone may have his or her idea of what quality is. In plain language, the standardized definition of quality in ISO 9001 refers to all those features of a product (or service) which are required by the customer. "Quality management" means what the organization does to ensure that its products conform to the customer's requirements. ISO  encompasses all the processes involved in delivering the product or service to the customer. It is not a certification of the product itself.
